Removal of occupations from the Critical Skills List

16-Mar-2009

The Department of Immigration has announced that it will be removing a great deal of construction occupations from the Critical Skills List.  This means that people with those occupations will still be eligible to apply for skilled migration, but persons who nominate occupations on the Critical Skills List will have their applications processed sooner.  This also means that due to the decrease in the quota for skilled applications if all applicants nominated Critical Skills then there will be no room left for those other applicants who meet the criteria if the quota is filled.  But applicants should not be deterred from applying, as there applications will eventually be processed, provided that they satisfy the "time of application" criteria, after all you have got to be in it to win it!
